Decision-grade AI
How to get decision-grade AI working in your business
Decision-grade AI is an answer your people can check, trust and act on. They can see where it came from, when it applies, whether they are allowed to use it, whether anything disagrees, and who owns the call. Finding the pages is easy. Standing behind the answer is the work.
Ask these before anyone acts on it.
1. Where it came from: the file, page or note, so a person can open it. 2. When it applies: product, site, date or customer type. 3. Are you allowed to use it: the same permission as the source, and the rules you set. 4. Does anything disagree: a newer note, a later policy, a different team. 5. Who owns the call: the named person who signs it off when it is still unclear.
Bring them in only when it is unclear.
Keep the experts for the cases that are still unclear or that pull in two directions. Routine answers go through the five checks. When someone does sign a hard case off, keep that sign-off so the next person starts from it.
A checked answer should outlast the chat.
Save every checked answer, with the source and the conditions it applies under. The next person starts from that line, not from a new chat. If the facts change, they correct the saved answer.
One real question type, one day.
A one-day decision-grade audit of one question you already answer: quotes, policy or customer queries. We run the five checks on that type, then set up the sources, the rules and named owners so staff can stand behind the next answer. If the tools you already pay for are the problem, AI Rescue is the fix route.
The idea, in our words.
This piece takes its angle from Alex Lato writing on the Stack Overflow blog, 30 September 2026: Organizations need decision-grade knowledge. AI makes it urgent. Retrieval is now easy. Trust fails when an answer cannot show source, scope, permission, conflict or an owner, and the resolved line disappears with the chat. We apply that to SMEs and charities.
Questions
Short answers.
What is decision-grade AI?
An answer your staff can check, trust and act on. They can see the source, when it applies, whether they are allowed to use it, whether anything disagrees, and who owns the call.
Why do staff stop trusting AI answers?
Finding pages is now easy. The answer still has to show source, scope, permission, conflict and an owner. If those are missing, people check it themselves and go back to the old way.
Do experts have to review every AI answer?
No. Call in the person who owns the work when the answer is unclear or sources disagree. Keep that sign-off so the next person starts from it.
What is a one-day decision-grade audit?
We take one real question type you already answer (quotes, policy or customer queries), run the five checks, then set up the sources, rules and named owners so the next answer can be stood behind.
